TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
-
This survey determined practices and opinions among study investigators in the Zoster Eye Disease Study regarding suppressive valacyclovir treatment for recent-onset and chronic herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO).
-
The majority of the respondents believed that antivirals are safe and effective in treating HZO, and half of the respondents will continue prolonged treatment with antivirals in conjunction with topical steroids. This is despite the fact that there are no evidence-based studies to support the prolonged use of antivirals for HZO.
