Ability of SS-OCT to Detect Retinal Changes in Patients With Bipolar Disorder

Link

  • This study evaluated the ability of swept source OCT (SS-OCT) to detect retinal changes in patients with bipolar disorder. Patients with bipolar disorder had significant thinning of the macular full retinal thickness in the center, inner temporal, inner nasal, and inner inferior of the ETDRS areas. Additionally, bipolar disorder was linked to thinning of the ganglion cell layer in the macular area, as well as peripapillary reduction of the retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell layer thickness.
  • The analysis of the retinal sublayers with swept source OCT may be a useful indicator of disease severity and prognosis in bipolar disorder..
